Holly Spring Juniors in the news!

Thank you to everyone who made our Walk to School Week such a success, especially Sarah Dawson and Sarah Mortimer who organised the walk through Lily Hill Park. The walk was photographed and made the front pages of The Bracknell Standard last week. The above photo can be found on the Bracknell Forest website under News and Events. The children certainly enjoyed the event and seemed more alert and raring to go than usual.  It was particularly impressive that some children, (and parents of course), got up extra early and walked past school to join the walk through Lily Hill.

As this was so popular we plan to continue with the walk every Wednesday until the end of term. If anyone would like to join us we will meet at the car park at 8.20 am. Please don’t leave me on my own!

Holly Spring Junior would also like to get their travel plan off the ground and with this in mind our Parent Governors, John Urban and Sarah Mortimer have organised an on-line survey to be completed by parents/children/ and staff.  The link for this is below.  Please take time to complete the survey as your views are very important to us.  There is also a link to the survey via the school website

Senior Citizens’ Lunch Club

As part of our community outreach work we are starting a Lunch Club for senior citizens on Wednesdays from 12.15 – 1.10. This sort of club has been established in other local primary schools and considered to be successful and very worthwhile. This is especially the case if some of the children’s grandparents are able to take part.

Grandparents/senior citizens would have lunch in the hall with the children and be served by our Buddies and our Senior Leadership Team. The menu will be; roast dinner, pudding of fruit crumble or jam sponge etc. followed by tea or coffee at a cost of £2.50 per person. This will have to be booked ahead through the school office (01344 422367) and on a first come first served basis.

Please feel free to pass this information to local senior residents and of course grandparents who would then sit with their grandchildren. This has been advertised locally too.

Take One Picture

The children have started work on the new picture which will be the focus of our exhibition this year. The picture is 'The Fighting Temeraire' by Turner.

The painting shows the final journey of the Temeraire, a celebrated gunship which had fought valiantly in Lord Nelson's fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Please keep the exhibition date free in your diary and come along to see the children’s hard work.

Family Learning Day

There is a Family Learning Day taking place at Holly Spring Schools on Saturday, 21st June.  This is a free day for families to come along and take part in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, sports and music.  The morning starts with registration at 10.00am and finishes at 3.00pm.  A barbeque lunch will be available.  This event is open to the public so do bring friends and family along.
