1 Jul 2007 - NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

This is the last newsletter of the academic year.

MRS COWLEY'S RETIREMENT

I'm sure you would agree that we will all be sad to see Mrs Cowley leave Holly Spring. She knows most of you so well and most of your children have been trusted to her care. This is just a reminder for those of you who want to make a donation to her leaving present. Mrs Gubbins and Mrs King from the infants will be at their classroom door every evening to take donations.

If anyone would like to sign the comments book that is also available from Mrs Gubbins and Mrs King. Please make time to do this if possible - it will mean such a lot to Mrs Cowley.

If you have any old photos of Mrs Cowley's time at Holly Spring they would be welcomed too.

SPORTS DAY

Thank you all for your patience over the cancelled Sports Day. The field is very muddy and it would be unsafe for children to race on it at the moment.

We will review the situation later in the week and give as much notice as possible of a new date. It's hard to believe that only a year ago schools were cancelling sports days for fear of heatstroke!

YEAR 2 EVENING

This planned evening on Thursday, 14th July starts at 7.30pm in the school hall for all our new year 3 parents (September 2005) and old parents too! I will spend an hour or so talking through the key points of what your child can expect in the juniors. On the night you will receive a copy of the school prospectus, a home/school agreement and news of which class your child will be in. Both year 3 teachers will be on hand to meet you, show you your child's new classroom and talk through any concerns you may have. We look forward to seeing you.

ON A MORE POSITIVE SPORTING NOTE

Holly Spring children have been achieving at sports elsewhere. Here is a quick rundown.

Kwik Cricket Festival/ tournament - we won 1 game and lost 3 but we got better each game.

Tennis Festival - year 3 children learned lots of skills and behaved impeccably

Athletics Festival - We did really well. We finished mid table which is amazing for such a small school. The mixed relay team finished 5th overall out of 21 schools. Chloe Quincey and Holly Cromack progressed through to the finals of the 80m sprint where Chloe finished 3rd! Lewis O'Connor finished 3rd in the 600m race. The rest of the results are not yet through.

Year 4 rounders tournament - Our team finished 2nd out of 4 schools.

"The Y4s are the cheeriest bunch in the school" - P Bailey

Girls Kwik Cricket is on 4th July - let's hope that rain doesn't stop play!

YEAR 5 & 6 PRODUCTION

The much awaited performances of Robin Hood will be:

Thursday 12th July at 2 O'clock and 7 O'clock - a letter with ticket allocation slip and further details will be sent out next week.

YEAR 5 & 6 PROM

The much awaited Prom is on Wednesday 18th July. Once again further details will follow.

LOST PROPERTY - AGAIN

Please watch out for me, on the next sunny day, with my uniform wares displayed. Come and check for your child's lost jumper or whatever or take an unlabelled one - LAST OFFER

MISSING SPORTS KIT

It has come to my attention that some children have had their kit go missing from school. Please check your child's kit when they bring it home in case they have inadvertently brought home the wrong one. It is expensive to keep replacing belongings.

SCHOOL CLOSES ON FRIDAY 20th JULY 2007

See you at the Summer Fete on Saturday. Please come and support the school council concert 2.00pm - 2.30pm.

Yours sincerely,
