A is for...

Aims

At Holly Spring we have a set of educational aims to guide us, summarised in the following poem:-

The whole school community has had a contribution to make in the preparation of the school's aims and they are central to all we do. We hope that everyone will join us in trying to achieve them!
Children

If children live with criticism
They learn to condemn

If children live with hostility
They learn to fight

If children live with ridicule
They learn to be shy

But if children live with encouragement
They learn confidence

If children live with tolerance
They learn to be patient

If children live with praise
They learn to appreciate

If children live with fairness
They learn justice

If children live with security
They learn to have faith

If children live with acceptance and friendship
They learn to find love in the world
Educational Aims

Our educational aims will be:-

To create a happy, secure and disciplined environment in which children are encouraged to develop their full potential.

To provide a broad and balanced curriculum which develops children's knowledge, skills and understanding through learning experiences appropriate to the individual.

To help children to learn mutual respect, tolerance and consideration of others, and appreciate individual achievements and aspirations.

To provide opportunities for every child to develop self esteem and self discipline.

To help children develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures.

To help develop children's ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about spiritual and moral issues.

Aims are there to guide us. We may never quite reach them but at least we know where we are trying to go!

Attendance

Regular attendance is vital. If your child is absent please let us know. A telephone message or a written note will suffice. We need to be informed of the reason for every absence. Failure to let us know will count as an "unauthorised absence" or truancy. The school is required to publish, by law, attendance rates each year.

There will of course be times when your child is not able to cope with the school day. It is then better to keep your child away until he/she is better.
