B is for...
Behaviour
We have high expectations of our children's behaviour both on and off the school site. Holly Spring is a well disciplined orderly school but children are not perfect! When the rules are broken we apply an appropriate sanction.
If the matter is at all serious we invite the parents and try to tackle the problem together. Where appropriate sanctions and individual behaviour plan fail to improve the situation, the Headteacher and Governors may exercise the right to exclude a pupil.
We do not use corporal punishment. We do not use after school detentions. The final sanction is exclusion from school.
Bookshop
The school bookshop is open every week, enabling children to buy or save up for quality fiction and non-fiction books kept in stock and regularly updated. The shop is run by keen year 6 children supported by a member of staff.
Break times
All the children have a 20-minute break mid morning and a break of one hour at lunchtime. It is important that children have access to fresh air and a run during the school day. However, a supervised indoor club in the autumn and winter seasons offers an opportunity for children to sit quietly and play board games etc. as an alternative to going outside.
Bringing the children
In the mornings, the children gather on the school playground, accessed by following the path around the back of the school building. Access is not permitted through the car park.
The children enter the school via the main school gate or the small pedestrian gate located by the infant building.
Broadmoor Escapes
In the event of an escape from Broadmoor Hospital we follow a very strict procedure. The procedure is detailed in the school prospectus and parents should familiarise themselves with this. It is particularly important that parents do not telephone the school when the siren has sounded, the lines need to be kept free.
Bullying
Bullying is not tolerated at Holly Spring. Bullying is dealt with quickly and effectively, if we know about it. Children are regularly reminded to tell an adult if they are worried or intimidated by other children.
Bullying can take many forms, ranging from exclusion from games, name calling through to physical violence in extreme cases. It occurs in all schools and leaning to handle it is part of growing up.
An anti-bullying policy exists at Holly Spring and is brought into action when cases are identified.
If parents have any concerns please contact the class teacher or senior member of staff immediately.
