C is for...

Charities

As a reflection of the caring ethos, where children are encouraged to appreciate each other's needs and help where possible, during the school year we support a number of Charities. The Charities are often chosen by the pupils "Children in Need", "Blue Peter Appeal", etc or invited by the Headteacher.

Support is given to a local, national and international cause in any given year. In recent times, the work of the NSPCC, Dr. Barnardo's and Help the Aged has been highlighted.

We try to ensure that no pressure is put on the children and that our requests for money are sensitively timed.

Child Guidance

Bracknell's Child Guidance Service is available to give advice to parents and to the school when the behaviour of a child gives continual cause for concern. The advice is free and confidential and many of our parents have appreciated the skills offered by a trained outsider. Parents are asked to speak to the Headteacher (in confidence) if they would like advice.

Clothing

All school clothing needs to be named. All outdoor coats have a serviceable loop from which they can be hung. The school runs, periodically, a uniform sale where good second-hand uniform items are sold at a reasonable price.

Items for the sale can be handed in at the school office, clearly marked with the sellers name, telephone number and a suggested sale price.

Collecting the children

In the afternoon please wait at the front of the school, as congregating around ground floor classroom windows can be disruptive to the children. Again, we respectfully ask for everyone's co-operation.

Complaints Procedure

We trust all queries are settled speedily and courteously. We are always ready to discuss any aspect of the school with you. Parents are encouraged to speak to their class teachers and the Headteacher if they have any concerns about the academic progress or welfare of their child.

In the event that a matter is not satisfactorily resolved, parents have the right to submit a formal complaint to the governors and ultimately to the Local Education Authority. Details of the procedure may be obtained from the school office.

Computers

The school is well equipped to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. A networked computer system, with Internet connections is located in each classroom.

Children also have the opportunity to use a digital camera, a datameter with sensors and a floor turtle.

The range of Internet sites that can be accessed have been carefully selected as an appropriate resource and we conduct strict supervision of the children's daily use.

Curriculum

At Holly Spring we follow a broad and balanced curriculum which covers for more than the statutory requirement of the National Curriculum. The curriculum is differentiated to cater for specific learning needs and relevant to meet the present and future needs of our children. Regardless of gender or race, we provide equal opportunities for all.
